making our waterways Less Salty  this winter

Commerce Court has partnered with WWF-Canada to help manage road salt responsibly and increase awareness of the harm it is causing our waterways and wildlife.

What is the issue?

A recent study of 371 lakes in eastern North America shows increased levels of chloride (salt) due to runoff from snow and ice melt. In other words, salt that is used to melt snow ends up in our waterways and has accumulated over time to levels that are harmful to wildlife and the ecosystem at large. For example, Lake Simcoe’s salt concentration levels have increased five folds since the 1970s.
